 Company History
1985 - Auto & General Insurance Company Ltd, a member/subsidiary of the Telesure Investment Holdings Group was established on the 1st of June.
1986 – The start of paperless insurance, the launch of the all new computer based personal lines policy – “Excel-10”.
1990 – Auto & General’s landmark head office building in Johannesburg was officially opened by President F.W. de Klerk.
1991 – The Group’s international operation concluded a computer software franchising agreement with a new UK insurance company.
1992 – The Computer system went live to improve client service & efficient administration.
1993 – The Company underwent a formal, independent financial evaluation and has been accorded a rating in the “A” category.
1995 – The Company re-affirmed its position as a leader in the industry with the creation of its Core Value, "An Obsession with Service". Staff Members are trained to focus on each aspect of SERVICE.
1996 – A new Claim's Philosophy was developed in the interest of enhanced service levels.
1998 – Telesure Group Services was established to ensure specialised administration and claims focus.
1999 – The "Readability Mark" - a stamp of approval, awarded for the policy document by "Plain
Business Writing" for user-friendly layout and jargon-free wording.
2003 – Auto & General, was voted best short-term insurer for the year by the IBC. The award was presented on the IBC's recognition of A&G's Service Excellence in the Tygerberg region.
Auto & General signed a partnership agreement with JSE-listed Glenrand MIB.
Auto & General also celebrated its 250 000 customer mark.
2004 – Auto & General was awarded an A+ rating for its claim-paying ability, by the Global Credit Rating Company.
Auto & General was voted by members of the South African Financial Services Intermediaries Association (SAFSIA), as the best personal lines short-term insurance company of the year along with another insurance organisation.
Auto & General also celebrated its 257 000 customer mark and signed an agreement with broker network, Brosist.
2005 – Auto & General reached a milestone as it celebrated it's 20th birthday.
Auto & General introduced a Service Charter for their clients which was an industry first.
Auto & General Insurance, has launched Auto & General Business Insurance nationally for small and medium enterprises,
Auto & General Insurance was named the Insurance Company of the Year, at an awards ceremony hosted by Automotive Refinisher magazine. Auto & General was one of the nominees for the award in the magazine's "Best of the Best Awards 2005".
2007 – Auto & General launched a new logo and look – Always there. Always a pleasure as well as a new refreshed Service Charter that emphasises the rights of the client.
2008 – Auto & General announced the signing of a three-year naming rights sponsorship of the Super 14 Lions rugby team.
2009 – Auto & General launched a Weather Alert Service, forewarning policyholders of adverse weather conditions via SMS.
Auto & General launched a unique Residential Estate product, rewarding those who have chosen an estate lifestyle with cheaper insurance premiums.
