At Auto & General, it is the season of giving all year around, and 2023 was no different. Through our ongoing partnerships with organisations in the Diepsloot community, we are making a sustained and meaningful contribution.

Here’s a look at what our CSI partners have been up to in 2023:

The Diepsloot Foundation

This diverse and dynamic organisation has taken a particular interest in developing emerging business owners through the introduction of career and entrepreneurship-focused short courses. By instilling and cultivating business skills and acumen in their students, they help to set them up for success on their journey towards opening successful businesses.

They have also taken an intertest in renewable energy and have ventured into using biogas as a more sustainable energy alternative. The aim is to build a biogas plant, fuelled by biodegradable waste, that will supply biogas to the community of Diepsloot.

LEAP Science & Maths Schools

We are extremely proud to assist the LEAP Science & Maths Schools, focusing specifically on learners in grades 8 to 12 in Diepsloot.

Through LEAP, learners receive student-centred, maths and science-focused education that ensures optimal academic results, paving the way for a successful and fulfilling future.

The students themselves find great joy in attending the programme, saying that they benefit from increased confidence, critical-thinking skills and are encouraged to be self-expressive. They are passionate about learning and understand the significance of doing well in maths, particularly to gain a university entrance.

OLICO Maths Education

Focusing on learners from Grade R to Grade 6, OLICO facilitates Maths Clubs, designed to improve the core areas of maths proficiency from problem-solving to reasoning. Activities are designed to engage young minds, encouraging a lifelong love for maths, from an early age. Like LEAP, learners look forward to their lessons and enjoy attending their classes.

The Food Security Programme

Over 1 100 children a day can enjoy a hearty and nutritious meal, thanks to the Food Security Programme. The programme has grown from strength to strength since we launched in Diepsloot in 2014. The programme supports 18 vegetable gardens and two seedling nurseries that provide nutritious meals to the children. In addition, 2 230 Diepsloot residents benefit indirectly from the programme too.

67 Blankets for Mandela Day

We continued our annual tradition of supporting this much-loved initiative. Our staff once again put their ‘goodwool’ to good use and knitted hundreds of warm and beautiful blankets for those in need.

While our CSI strategy is focused on addressing the community’s core critical needs, the results are far greater than that. Knowing that basic needs are taken care of, those who benefit from these programmes are able to, and do, thrive.
